05.22.2009 | Preliminary Hearing Hi Everyone, This is Robot from SL, so on May 26 2009, at around 8:30 am, the preliminary hearing for Youn Bum Lee will be held at the Superior Court of California. Central Justice Center 700 Civic Center Dr. W. Santa Ana, California 92701 We would like to invite anyone who would like to attend. During this hearing the lawyers will present the Judge with all the evidence that has been accumulated over the past years. This is the point in the case where the Judge will find there is enough evidence to talk the case to trial or the Judge could present a deal to Youn Bum Lee in order to keep the case from going to trial. We feel that if there is a strong showing of people who loved Ryan the judge will take notice and not present the deal but instead set a court date. If you do attend please make sure to dress appropriately. Thank you for all of your love and support! Suburban Legends Brian Robertson 05.11.2009 | SL auditions trumpet players! What's up Everybody, Not sure if you've heard yet but it's true, with an unfortunate turn of events Luis and Suburban Legends have parted ways due to creative differences. We wish him the best of luck in all his future endeavors. So right now we are currently in the market for a new horn player. Specifically a trumpet player, but if you play any other horn instruments please don't hesitate to try out. Here's how we're going to do this! Make a video of yourself (visual effects are a plus, remember we have ADD) with four main ingredients. First, an introduction. We want to get to know you, things like your name, hobbies, family, pets, favorite day of the week, occupation, other talents you may have, basically don't be shy. But don't spend too much time on yourself cause we want to hear you play! Second, your routine exercises and warm ups on your instrument. Things like scales, long tones, basic exercises... We want to get a taste of how you get ready to play. Third, play a song on the horn that best show cases you. It can be anything you want! Forth and final thing is to hear you play one of our songs. Pick any one of our songs from any album and play the horn parts to the best of your ability. We want to hear how well you can play by ear. Send a link to your video to slneedsnewhorns@gmail.com and we'll be watching them with smiles on our faces! It would be best if you lived in the Orange County area, but in the end this is open to ANYONE and EVERYONE! So give it a shot and TRYOUT! We're looking forward to your submissions so send them in ASAP! The submission process will be open until we find the right person. In other news! We are currently in the works writing for a new album and we're doing it the way we want to. We're taking our time and writing a SKA record! Not a ska influences record (cause we have horns) or a record with a couple of ska songs, but a FULL BLOWN SKA ROCK ALBUM! We'll post some demos as they start coming together to see what you guys think! We also have some Disney Dates coming up this summer with a special guest joining us, Aaron Bertram! He'll be filling in for the Disney dates until we find a new permanent horn player. There also will be some other unexpected things going down at Disney, so come and join us this summer! Looking forward to your video submissions! BIG Love, SL PS: Get to know your legend will be coming soooooooooon! We just need to figure out how to manipulate time. Let's talk to the time travelers in Santa Ana on 1st and Grand! 02.27.2009 | SUBURBAN LEGENDS nominated for an OC Music Award Hey Everyone. England has been awesome! The kids at the shows have been very nice and welcoming! I do, however, have one complaint... I'm starving!! Unlike the shows in EU there's not much food to be had at these shows. In Europe the catering was incredible!! 5 star incredible! But now we might get a few pounds to grab some fish and chips... And don't get me wrong I like fish and chips but at some point your body starts to hate you for trying to survive on snack foods. In the end I'm sure I'll survive Did I tell you about the chocolates out here? Maybe I did already but I'm going to tell you once more! There awesome!!!! I can't eat enough! I'm not sure what it is but the chocolate just tastes better out here! I know your thinking no it's all the same, but your wrong! Anyway, enough of that, let's talk about the shows. People can finally understand our jokes!! They may not be funny... but they understand them :) over all the shows have been going really well maybe better then in EU! The hard part is convincing people the suburban legends mean business! For the most part the entire crowd has never seen us before but, unlike the shows in Europe, the kids have been dancing and responding very well! But... just like any first timers, it takes some time to warm them up and let them know it's ok to have fun! It's so hard for people to cut loose and have fun!! That's why it's our job to head out world wide and spread the message! It's ok to dance!! Just dance!! It will be ok!! Just dance!! ......... Oh wait.... Lady Gaga has already done that.... Darn!! Well hope your healthy! Love you, Robot 2/8/09 Robot in Amsterdam!! So today is the only day off on the entire tour!! It just happens to be in Amsterdam!! I know what your thinking, and yes we did go to the red light district. Probably the most novel place I have ever been!! It was like a mix between the Knotts Halloween Haunt, Bourbon street in New Orleans and the Vegas strip. All and all it was a very wild experience! Amsterdam is a very interesting and beautiful city! I had a Belgian waffle with chocolate sauce at about 2 in the morning! All I can say is AWESOME!! I also took in some culture as well. Vincent and I hit up the Van Gogh art museum! Those art history classes finally payed off! The show in Utrecht was awesome!! One of the best so far! The kids seemed to have a great time and so did we!! We now, however, need to say a fond farewell to Europe and as I write we are sitting on a ferryboat that is bringing us over the channel and into England! It's going to be great to speak English to the audience and make jokes that people will understand! :) Anyway, we really hope and pray that mother nature won't dump a bunch of snow on us as we try to drive to the shows! Please don't snow, please don't snow, pleases don't snow!!! Hope your doing well, and staying healthy! Love you! ;) Robot 2/3/09 Derek Lee Rock reports in from Germany! Hello everybody, it’s Derek writing from our Europe tour! We’re in the Sprinter van driving to Cologne, Germany. We’ve been out here for about a week now and it’s been amazingly cool so far. The plane flight was actually not as grueling as I thought it was going to be, quite nice! We landed in London and Adam picked us up! Adam is our tour manager/driver/gear renter/overall Obi-Wan Kenobi type guy for this tour. Check out his band, Fandangle, they are cool! So Europe....well, it’s really cold for starters. In fact sometimes FREEZING. I will usually wear my SL hoodie, with my leather jacket over it, and then a HUGE tan coat over it that Luis loaned my for the trip. I’m so bundled up, I feel like a fire fighter walking around everywhere we go, woop woop! The scenery is great. I keep feeling like I’m in a James Bond movie whenever we walk around, if that makes sense. The food is great! When we show up at the venues there is usually a whole spread of sandwich/pastry/beverages/coffee etc. BUT, an interesting thing is that when you go to buy coffee at a gas station or food at a restaurant, all of the portions are much much smaller than US ones. Do we eat too much back at home? I had a Happy Meal at McDonalds last night, classic!!! Another thing that makes this trip awesome is that we are out with Reel Big Fish!!! The set they’ve been playing is incredibly cool. I’m really happy that they took us out with them!!! The fans out here are very nice and are loving our music. Here’s another crazy part about Europe....NO CELL PHONE!!! Well sort of. Basically you can’t use your phone as your normally would, browsing the internet, checking email all that stuff. Not possible. BUT when there’s WIFI you can! So when there’s WIFI everyone rejoices and we do our usual nerd stuff like make calls to home over SKYPE or check our sites. We have a few more Germany/Belguim dates and then on to the UK gigs. I am so excited about these because they are going to be huge shows. We will be trading in the Sprinter van and riding around in Adam’s band’s bus, which looks like something out of Pimp My Ride, very cool! That’s all for now. I miss everyone back home and can’t wait to put some video together from our trip! Love, D.Rock 2/2/09 Robot in Germany! So we are now 2 days into the Germany dates. So far things are going well we played both Hamberg and Berlin, and both shows went well. We found out, however, that the kids don't really know what the heck we are talking about when we are on stage. We decided we needed to change up the show a bit so now the only thing we are really saying on stage is "Hi, thank you, clap, jump and Reel Big Fish on next." Trying to sell merch is a bit of a challenge as well! First, the euro is like play money! Not that it doesnt look like money, it's just so small! The 5s are about the size of monopoly money, and like most places in the world the ones only come as coins! Second, Germans do know English to an extent, but there is still a ton of lost in translation conversations happening. Oh yea, and no one wants to pay full price for merch. Everyone wants a deal! So I'm thinking about raising the price of everything so I can cut a deal for everyone, hahahaha! ;) Well tonight we play in Nurenburg. And for the past few nights we have had some awesome food!! The venues have been feeding us and they have been providing local foods for us to eat! (Not just pizza). It's been a great adventure in food! Anyway, we are at the venue now and we perform in about an hour so I'll say bye for now! Hope to talk to you soon! Love, Robot 1/29/09 American Robot in a foreign land! Plains! Vans! And boats! Holly molly!! We have been doing nothing but moving for the past 24 hours! 10 hour plain ride from LA to the Uk, then a combination of vans and ferry boats for the next 12 hours! But finally we arrived at the world famous Eindhoven of Holland! Where we will be playing the first show here at Effenaar!! Yea, your thinking I don't know what that means? And I'm thinking the same thing. However, the good thing is most people out here speak English... More or less. Oh yea, did I mention it's cold? It's way cold!! But I have a nice jacket and some thermals so I'm now at about 4 layers of clothing. It helps a little. The first show was a blast!! We got the usual reaction from a crowd that is seeing us for the first time. Disbelief! Most people don't know how to react to us, it takes about half the set for people to realize they can have a good time. :) over all the people were very nice, and we had a good time. So we found a place to sleep at a local guys house. It was a student house which means it's cheap and a bit rundown. But really the house was cool. It was really old, it had been there before the war. And there's something to be said about that because most of the area was destroyed during the Nazi bombing of the war. Anyway, it's about 3 am now and I'm tucked into my sleeping bag here on the ground and it's freezing cold!! Well hope all is well with you! If you already have our stuff, there's no better way to say I Love You during the Holiday Season then to give the gift of 12 copies of Infectious with a couple of Hoodies thrown in to the one(s) you love. :) Thanks you guys again!!! Love, SL So if you haven't heard, here's some light details on what's been going on this last week. On Sunday night after our show at the Troc in Philadelphia our 15 passenger Ford van and trailer were stolen out of our hotel parking lot. The following day we were scrambling to figure how we were going to get back out on the road. Jody B (Derek's girlfriend's Mom) notified the local CH6 ABC Action news about what had happened and we were able to get our story out to all of Phili on the 5:30PM news. That night around 10:30PM while we were hanging out at the hotel, when Derek got a call from Action News saying that they had got a tip from someone that had seen the news piece and saw our van in there neighborhood. At this point, the news crew and Philadelphia Police were on route to check on our stolen van and trailer. The suspense was killing us! We were getting updates from the news crew over the phone, all the while being stuck at the hotel not being able to go anywhere to check out the scene where our van, trailer, and possibly all our stuff might have been at. Action did a follow up piece at 11PM, so the first sight we had of our van and trailer was on the 11 o clock Philadelphia news. It was an unreal experience to say the least... During all this time we were also trying to get a hold of the police to get some information about what was going on. Van, trailer, equipment, merch, personal items, we were all in the dark about all this stuff. Finally late that night, we did get a hold of an officer that told us they did find our van and trailer, but couldn't release it to us till the next day. We were told, "it's cleaned out." Tuesday we're still in Phili. Robertson and I, picked up the van and trailer around 4 or 5PM at the police vehicular compound. I guess they got in through the passenger side with a screw driver, and ripped out the ignition and driver side dash. They ransacked it taking all our equipment, all our merchandise, Klemm and Mikey's clothes, and anything of value in the van. We're estimating tens of thousands of dollars lost in theft and damages. They did leave two boxes of CDs, our banner, also a photo copied pic of a dude holding his "unit" next to our gas cap (i'm sure the thieves thought that was funny). Yup, we were F$CKED! The officer at the station was nice enough to give us a screw driver and showed us how to start the van with it and then we were on our way. Just happy to have our van back, Robertson and I headed back to pick up the guys and get back out on the road. Then "BAMMM!!!" As we're driving on the freeway the van makes this exploding noise, losing all power and then a huge rumbling sounds is coming from the engine. We pull over, call the rest of the guys and figure out what to do next. Jody B(Derek's girlfriend's mom) was to the rescue. With the help of her and her neighbors we towed the van to a dealership for service and towed our trailer to her house. We crashed at Jody B's boyfriend Ray's house and it was awesome! This was the "Man House." Everything a man could ever want in a house, BIG flat screen TV, full entertainment system, lots and lots of beer, and places to crash for the night. On Wednesday, we spent the day at the dealership and on the phone with insurance to figure out what we were going to do about our van. Our biggest concern was getting back out on the road and start playing shows as soon as possible! After finding out our van was going to take about a week to a week and a half, we decided to rent a van out in Lancaster PA from Band-A-Go (thanks alex for finding that), cause we needed to get back out on the road fast. By the way, if you're a touring band that isn't looking to own cause you just don't tour that often, check out Band-a-Go, they are an awesome alternative and they cater to touring groups. Definitely hooked us up! So on Thursday Brian R and I got on a train from Philadelphia to Lancaster, picked up our rental van, headed back to Phili to pick up the rest of the guys and hit the road. After a brief but expensive trip to Sam Ash we were on our way. We picked up and restocked what we could at Michelle's place. Thanks to Mike from hot topic, those of us without clothes are now swimming it them. Mike we are are gonna bring back the BEST beer the east coast has to offer for you. Currently we at the Recher Theater in Baltimore, healthy, happy, and ready to play a rock show! Klemm is super excited 'cuz there is a comic shop across the street. Time to pick up the new releases! :) 11.16.2007 | Suburban Legends Tour Update! Hey kids!! Ok so here is a quick update! We are now back on the road!! That’s right!
